The Supervising Video Producer is an experienced creative leader responsible for overseeing and producing original video content across KQED’s Digital Video portfolio. This role will lead the development and production of midform YouTube content, vertical video series, and television broadcast programs supporting KQED’s Food, Guides, and Technology editorial verticals.
Working closely with the Manager, Video Content Development, the Supervising Video Producer will help develop new series, establish consistent and repeatable production practices, and execute KQED’s digital video strategy across owned and operated platforms and third-party distribution channels. This position will lead projects from initial concept through final delivery, providing editorial leadership, production oversight, and creative guidance while managing workflows, resources, schedules, and production teams.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished storyteller with extensive experience producing digital video and broadcast content. They possess strong editorial judgment, a deep understanding of audience-focused storytelling, and the ability to lead creative teams in developing compelling video content that serves KQED audiences across multiple platforms. This role requires extensive knowledge of the full production process, including development, scripting, field production, post-production, distribution, and audience engagement.
The Supervising Video Producer will collaborate with Digital Video leadership, Audience Engagement, TV Programming, Video Production and Distribution, Legal, Finance, Marketing, Development, and other internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality productions that meet editorial goals, organizational priorities, contractual requirements, and public media standards.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Manager, Video Content Development.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.
Essential Functions:
- Accountable for producing original video content from concept through completion, including development, research, scripting, production, and reviewing post-production and delivery across YouTube, vertical video platforms, and television broadcast.
- Lead editorial of video projects by evaluating ideas, reviewing pitches, shaping story structure, providing script feedback, and ensuring content aligns with KQED editorial standards and audience goals.
- Supervise and mentor full-time and on-call Video Producers responsible for executing video projects across KQED’s Digital Video portfolio.
- Oversee production schedules, resource plans, and workflows across multiple concurrent projects, providing guidance and support to producers responsible for day-to-day project management.
- Provide creative direction and editorial feedback to producers, editors, writers, hosts, and other collaborators throughout the production process.
- Provide production guidance on budgets, staffing plans, production schedules, and workflow decisions in collaboration with Production, Finance, and other relevant departments.
- Drive the development and implementation of improved production processes, workflows, and scalable systems that increase efficiency and support KQED’s growing digital video portfolio
- Work with the Manager, Video Content & Development to develop new video series and strategic content initiatives, establishing consistent, repeatable production practices across projects.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, TV Programming, Video Production and Distribution to identify opportunities for digital video content to be adapted and distributed through television platforms.
- Partner with Audience Engagement to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for viewership, engagement, audience growth, and content performance across KQED-owned and third-party platforms.
- Partner with the Sponsored Content Producer and Branded Content Seller to identify and execute on opportunities to create branded content within current and future video productions.
- Accountable for applying audience insights and performance data to inform future production decisions, improve storytelling approaches, and strengthen audience engagement.
- Represent Digital Video production in matters related to SAG-AFTRA and NABET contracts, KQED policies, public media guidelines, and legislative and regulatory requirements. Work with Legal and Finance to minimize organizational risk and ensure production compliance.

Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Minimum of 8 years of professional production experience, including at least 5 years producing digital video content.
- Demonstrated ability to produce content for digital platforms, including YouTube and social video platforms.
- Production and delivery of video content for broadcast television and/or streaming distribution.
- Extensive knowledge of the full video production process, from development through post-production and delivery.
- Strong editorial judgment and demonstrated ability to develop compelling narratives for digital and broadcast audiences.
- Excellent storytelling, writing, and script development skills across multiple formats.
- Proven track record of managing multiple productions simultaneously while meeting deadlines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and providing creative guidance to producers, editors, and other production staff.
- Experience directing talent, conducting interviews, and leading field productions.
- Strong understanding of digital audience behavior, platform trends, and strategies for increasing engagement and retention.
- Experience collaborating with internal departments and external partners to successfully execute productions.
- Knowledge of production workflows, rights management, licensing, and production documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Knowledge/Experience Desired:
- Demonstrated ability to produce content across multiple genres including documentary, lifestyle, educational, technology, food, or culture.
- Proven track record of developing repeatable production models for digital video series.
- Experience collaborating with analytics teams or audience development teams to improve content performance.
- Experience working within a public media organization or mission-driven media environment.
- Strong relationships with independent producers, creators, writers, editors, and production partners.
- Familiarity with current digital video trends, emerging platforms, and evolving audience behaviors.
- Background working within public media or other mission-driven media environments.
