Position Summary:
This position requires a story editor with a great ear, who has knowledge of and interest in the subject matter of the show and experience with longform, serialized, narrative audio. The editor should be capable of evaluating and contributing to pitches, guiding production team to develop storylines and determine focus for individual episodes, editing scripts for audio, giving detailed mix notes, managing deadlines and workflows of the team and production, and overseeing the overall arc and coherence of the limited series.
The editor will work closely with the host, producer, and director of podcasts and should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a team—giving constructive feedback on content and processes, stewarding production timelines, aiding and fostering collective vision, and contributing to a respectful and constructive work environment.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.
The successful candidate will be required to join The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
Essential functions:
- Provide timely and in-depth edits on story structure for scripts and mixes, and assist in writing when necessary
- Review scripts and rough mixes on both a big picture and a line-by-line basis
- Work collaboratively with teams to uphold best practices for fact-checking and audio accessibility
- Manage multiple simultaneous deadlines and clearly communicate those to host, producer and other stakeholders
- Provide oversight and guidance to the production team, coaching/mentoring as needed
- Assist with interview prep, research, coaching host tracking, etc where needed
- Oversee creative communication with teams including host, production staff and other stakeholders throughout development and production process
- Maintain and adapt systems and production workflows that support deadline-driven creative work
- Assist with the production of companion and/or promotional content for the show, including website content, social media, promotional advertising, live events, or other digital content as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Minimum of five years of experience producing audio for radio or podcast
- At least two years of experience as a story editor, especially in narrative and/or documentary format
- Strong understanding of journalistic principles, ethics and standards, and ability to guide team and content accordingly
- Strong interest and/or expertise in subject matter of the show: Nancy Pelosi’s political history and legacy, California and federal politics, history of women in politics
- Experience and knowledge of the entire lifecycle of narrative audio production and all of the tasks therein
- An ability to listen to raw tape, and identify the perfect details, the need-to-know plot points, and the need-to-hear moments that make a story
- Experience scripting and reviewing longform audio stories (15-20 min or longer)
- Familiarity with Audition, Pro Tools or other DAW
- Ability to remain calm in high-pressure time-sensitive situations with a variety of personalities
