The On-call Television Editor is principally responsible for the post-production video editing of KQED’s television programs, including “Check, Please! Bay Area” and related show elements. Our editors primarily work in Avid Media Composer, along with Interplay/MediaCentral. The position also requires familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere and After Effects.
This position will be responsible for understanding the entire post production workflow, including ingesting media, A and B roll, craft editing, audio sweetening, color-correcting, and final exports and delivery to our remote Master Control. General troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently are keys to success.

This role is onsite at our newly renovated KQED headquarters in San Francisco.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize KQED’s AVID production asset management system, perform off-line, craft and on-line editing for KQED’s television programs
- Review and assemble raw media - including footage filmed in the studio, in the field and other sourced media - along with audio and graphic elements into rough cuts and final programs
- Create graphics and motion graphics as needed
- Collaborate with production and studio teams to transform show concepts and scripts into completed products
- Review completed screener prior to submitting for review and collaborate with editorial supervisors to modify content as needed
- Prepare program for delivery, including color correction, audio corrections and leveling and program packaging
- Create show deliverables and show masters
- Deliver completed program to station’s Master Control for broadcast
- Edit related program materials, such as promos, and deliver to Master Control for broadcast
- Edit related program materials for Digital distribution, such as Digital versions, show segments, promos and other publicity materials
- Collaborate with Television Post-Production Supervisor to organize and archive media
- Improve and document media workflows
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Minimum five years experience as a broadcast video editor
- Skilled in AVID and Adobe editing systems
- Demonstrated experience working in food-related content and programming highly desirable
- Skilled at editing various video formats and styles, including shorts and host and/or character-driven work
- Demonstrable grasp of show/story structure and pacing
- Experience troubleshooting technical issues
- Skilled in color correction and sound mixing
- Basic animation and motion graphic skills
- Knowledge of editorial principles, ethics and standards
