Full-Time: Media Coordinator

The Media Coordinator is a liaison between KQED’s content creators and its engineering and operations teams. This person is responsible for assisting with media management and archiving tasks for a multimedia newsroom, a segmented and digital audio team, and a podcasting unit. This coordinator has administrative responsibilities in several media asset management systems with an emphasis on audio production.

The Coordinator also helps develop, document, and implement updated workflows to ensure a successful system for managing materials such as scripts, media, and metadata. This person trains users and oversees the proper workflow protocols.

Additionally, the Coordinator will assist the Manager, Media Operations in troubleshooting equipment and process issues, managing field equipment, and supporting production systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Help manage media asset organizing and archiving functions for the KQED newsroom, radio and podcasting units, and segmented digital audio.
  • Manage the day to day operations of archiving media in two media asset management systems.
  • Assist radio engineering in developing and implementing database migration and purge rules.
  • Develop expertise in the editorial and production workflow systems for KQED News and Podcasting, and assist the Media Operations Manager in troubleshooting problems in those systems. 
  • Help identify and troubleshoot workflow issues, and communicate issues and solutions among the FM Engineering, operations, and editorial teams.
  • Train and support users with rollout of workflow changes for new and existing staff in collaboration with Media Operations Manager, and editorial and technical staff. 
  • Assist the Media Operations Manager with training new and current employees on audio related content systems.
  • Administer database user accounts in conjunction with Radio Engineering, including permissions and workgroup roles.
  • Deliver responsive customer support and communications.

Other Job Functions: 

  • Participate in on-call support rotation for after-hours emergencies

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a mid- to large-scale media production environment
  • Experience with integrated media production and editorial management systems
  • Strong computer, database and file management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and deconstruct work processes into discrete functional units
  • Ability to dynamically manage and prioritize both short- and long-term projects
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure time-sensitive situations with a variety of personalities
  • Experience training others in workflow and procedures

Knowledge/Experience Desired:

  • Experience in a busy broadcast newsroom environment
  • Project management experience
  • Experience producing and mixing audio
  • Experience with Dalet, Evolphin, or some other media asset management system
  • Experience with Pro Tools, Audition, Final Cut, Avid, Premiere
  • Experience with Creative Cloud and Dropbox
