FM Engineer
Successful candidates should be skilled in radio broadcast engineering and operations including maintenance of broadcast automation and studio equipment, transmitter site RF equipment as well as possessing strong computer/IT skills.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The successful candidate will be required to join National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) Local 51.
Salary Information: $53.60-$73.64 per hour
Essential Functions:
- Ability to inspect, repair, and maintain all broadcast radio station equipment, including transmitters, antennas, satellite downlinks, automation system, studio equipment, remote equipment, generators, telephone system, audio routing systems, consoles, etc.
- Responds to equipment outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems
- Conducts routine diagnostic testing, repair and replacement of all equipment used for radio stations broadcasts
- Documents equipment maintenance, repair and replacements
- Troubleshoot broadcast equipment problems to board level
Other Job Functions:
- Makes decisions on test equipment, parts, and related tools needed for use in maintenance and repair
- Maintain knowledge of FCC Rules and Regulations
- Provide basic level IT and audio support to users with varying degrees of experience
- Assist in maintaining station transmitter and EAS Logs
Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Minimum 3-5+ years broadcast engineering experience
- Hands-on FM and HD transmitter experience
- IT and networking knowledge and experience
- Experience with digital audio delivery/streaming; Telos ZI/P, Barix, Comrex, GatesAir, etc.
- Strong proven time management skills including ability to multitask across a multitude of workstreams
- Proficiency in shared documentation tools, including Excel, Word, Google Sheets, Google Docs.
- Strong verbal and writing communications skills
- Availability to work various hours / days, including some weekends and holidays
- Ability to provide on-call status 24/7 in case of equipment failure
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio and other technical drawing platforms
Knowledge/Experience Desired:
- Experience with production and newsroom asset management systems such as Dalet Galaxy, Octopus Newsroom, etc.
- Experience with automated master control systems such as Dalet Galaxy, ENCO DAD, WideOrbit AFR, etc.
- Experience with digital routing systems and consoles such as Lawo, Wheatstone, Sierra Audio Systems, etc.
- Remote PC access tools such as Anydesk, Remote Desktop, VNC
- Proficiency with industry standard DAW’s such as Avid ProTools, Adobe Audition
- Knowledge of digital audio standards including IP standards such as AES67, Ravenna, Dante, etc.
