Pay Information: $35.29-$47.97 per hour

Position Summary:

The Custodial/Event Staff is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and setup of all designated areas within our facilities, as well as providing support during events and functions. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Custodial/Event Staff will contribute to creating a welcoming and well-maintained environment for all staff, visitors, and event attendees.

KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media.   We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.

This role will be working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The successful candidate will be required to join National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) Local 51.

Essential Functions:

  1. Custodial Duties:
    • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting of designated areas such as offices, restrooms, conference rooms, grounds, and common areas.
    • Empty trash and recycling receptacles, ensuring proper disposal and maintaining cleanliness standards.
    • Clean and maintain floor surfaces, ensuring they are free of debris, spills, and hazards.
    • Monitor and replenish restroom supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
    • Keep track of cleaning inventory and report any maintenance or supply needs to the Facilities Supervisor.
  2. Event Support:
    • Assist with the setup and breakdown of event spaces, including arranging furniture, and managing signage.
    • Provide support during events, including but not limited to room monitoring, custodial services, and addressing any immediate facility-related issues.
    • Collaborate with event organizers and other staff members to ensure smooth execution of events.
    • Assist in maintaining inventory and organization of event-related supplies and equipment.
  3. Facility Maintenance:
    • Conduct regular inspections of designated areas to identify and report maintenance needs, such as repairs, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards.
    • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to address and resolve facility-related issues in a timely manner.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial equipment and storage areas.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals.
    • Adhere to established security protocols and report any suspicious activities or safety concerns to the Security and Facilities management.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all custodial and event-related activities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational or technical training is a plus.
  • Proven experience in custodial services, event support, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and materials.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with staff, visitors, and event attendees.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
