Full-Time: Producer, Perspectives
As a trusted provider of news and information in the Bay Area, one of KQED’s key roles is sharing the voices and stories of our community. For decades, Perspectives has been a platform for community voices to share their personal essays as daily radio segments. These two-minute audio essays submitted by the public cover all sorts of matters from deeply personal to trivial and light.
Now, KQED hopes to take the Perspectives product and rethink how we engage with our audiences, and which voices we feature. This producer will also help lead the Perspectives platform’s transition to a digital- and engagement-focused offering, including email newsletters, events and social media.
The Perspectives Producer is responsible for working closely with members of KQED’s audience to produce their first-person essays and commentaries for air on KQED Radio. The Producer will conduct outreach, in partnership with the Digital Editor, to encourage a wide and diverse group of writers to share their ideas. They will curate submissions, and work with writers of varying experience levels, helping to coach newer writers to develop and edit their essays.
The producer will also work with a cross departmental team to raise the profile of Perspectives on KQED’s website, newsletters and social media channels.
KQED envisions a public media organization with a culture that centers on human dignity, equity, and belonging. This will enable us to better serve and reflect the Bay Area through diverse and inclusive storytelling.
We value the contributions of marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people — and we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, and we strongly encourage members of these communities to apply.
The mission that drives us:
KQED provides citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.
This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The successful candidate will be required to join The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
