This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from Monday, July 6, 2026 - Friday, December 18, 2026. Current Salary is $19.61 per hour.
Position Summary:
Do you love diving down internet rabbit holes? Are you fascinated by emerging technology and digital culture? Do you geek out over podcasts and audio storytelling? Then come work on KQED's Close All Tabs!
We're a weekly podcast exploring the stories and context behind the trends taking over our feeds — and we're looking for an intern who's excited to learn audio storytelling on a highly produced, scripted show that blends playful humor with fact-based reporting.
You'll work hands-on with our team on all aspects of production: researching episodes, booking guests, cutting tape, and pitching ideas.
KQED envisions a public media organization with a culture that centers on human dignity, equity, and belonging. This will enable us to better serve and reflect the Bay Area through diverse and inclusive storytelling.
We value the contributions of marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people — and we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, and we strongly encourage members of these communities to apply.

The mission that drives us:
KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.
This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.Essential Functions:
- Write copy across platforms, including episode scripts, audio interviews, newsletters and social media
- Cut and edit audio in a digital audio workstation software
- Conduct research for episodes and interviews
- Record audio, potentially in the field, for podcast stories or interviews
- Communicate with guests via calls and email, from initial outreach through interview
- Attend and participate in editorial meetings
Knowledge/Experience Required:
It’s okay if you don’t know how to do all those things. We’re here to help you learn. What’s most important is that you understand how to write well. Can you communicate ideas clearly on the page or in an email? Writing is central to what we do in media.
We also expect that you have basic communication skills when speaking or reaching out to people you are not familiar with. That’s because you will be asked to make calls or send an email to someone you’ve never met.
Knowledge/Experience Desired:
It would be great if you had some experience editing or recording audio, but again, we can help with that. Some experience reporting a story would also be beneficial, but you’ll get that experience here, too.
Growth & Development Opportunities:
As an intern with Close All Tabs, you’ll get the chance to peer behind the scenes of what it takes to make a weekly podcast focused on analyzing the latest trends and narrative storytelling. You’ll learn how to offer editorial feedback to peers. You may get the chance to contribute reporting to an episode. You’ll sharpen your writing skills, and deepen your appreciation for listeners.
