This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from January 21, 2025 through June 27th, 2025. Current Salary is $18.67 per hour. 

The KQED Podcast Operations and Engagement Intern plays a fundamental role within the department’s operations team and will work closely with the Operations Manager and Engagement Producer as they collaborate with podcast teams and other departments on audience growth and engagement efforts. This role will provide administrative support and copywriting for internal and external cross promos, data management, research, and other duties in support of production teams, as well as our audience engagement activities including social media communications, community interaction, and events planning.

KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media.   We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.

This role requires working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working in the field. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Essential Functions:

  • Pull weekly and monthly podcast data
  • Write promotional copy for internal and external collaborators
  • Assist with the trafficking of promos and other audio content
  • Assist with the creation of social media assets in collaboration with the Engagement Producer
  • Assist with the creation and production of  audio, video, and written social content
  • Assist with the execution of audience and engagement plans under the direction of the Operations Manager
  • Organize and manage audience communications and collaborations with the KQED Podcast Engagement Producer
  • Attend weekly editorial and engagement team meetings

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • An independent thinker and self starter who works well in a team environment
  • Agility in using digital tools like Google Drive (Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides)
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and goals while working under pressure

Knowledge/Experience Desired:

  • Strong desire for excellence in written communications and developing a brand voice.
  • Passionate about supporting communities in telling their own stories from their own experiences. 
  • Strong interest in podcasting, public media, social media, communications, digital media, marketing and design. 
  • Strong interest in innovation on social media platforms, including new and emerging media. 
  • Interest in image editing and visual communication skills are a plus.
  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms, audiences, trends, and tools.

Growth & Development Opportunities:  

As an intern with the KQED Podcast department, you’ll get the chance to go behind the scenes of what it takes to run the business side of podcasting. You’ll dive into podcast metrics, contribute to promotional plans, learn about podcast audience strategy, flex writing and  production muscles, and interface with multiple podcast production teams.
